The bullet struck the earth not three inches from his right paw, kicking dirt and dry leaves up into the air. Emile yelped and sprang away, darting under a tree branch and up a hill, paws scrabbling desperately to give him more speed. He'd been drinking at the river that cut through the forest when he'd been shot at and chased for the past half an hour by a human and some dogs; they weren't as fast as him nor could they run for as long but his wolf mind was terrified and he wasn't thinking straight at all.
He could here the human urging the dogs on - he'd been mistaken for a normal wolf because of his size, and he couldn't hide with the dogs on his tail. If they hadn't been there he probably could have turned back and hidden but not now. As he sprinted towards a patch of open land, a loud sound split the air in two; making him yelp in surprise and fear. The slug nicked his right flank and sent the boy-turned-wolf stumbling to the ground, whining.
It hadn't gone straight in but it stung like hell and he was bleeding and his legs wouldn't respond well; they where sluggish but he still managed to kick at the dirt in an attempt to rise to all fours once more.
The dogs - four of them, all smaller than him but still very determined - bolted over the hill and charged him. The first one reached him - and though Emile didn't like hurting dogs - lunged for his face. Emile's wolf surged forth and he snarled, meeting the dog head on despite his wounds. He swiftly overpowered it despite the fact he was hurting and bit into its neck, shaking it hard like a rag doll. It yelped and struggled but Emile simply snarled and bit his massive jaws down harder until he hear the crunch of bone and he dropped it limply to the floor, before he collapsed on his side, whimpering again.
The human cried out something his animal mind didn't quite catch, and the dogs kept back, wary of him now. The man raised his gun to fire, and the small wolf closed his eyes, whimpering...

Brent and Arrow were out for a run in wolf form. They hadn't gotten a little bored, so a run sounded like a good idea. They'd left the pack den to run through the surrounding forest on the pack's land. Brent was really happy he had met Arrow, though her he had met a new pack and recently joined. Plus she was just an awesome person, who accepted the fact that he was gay right away, and said she would always have his back. Well Brent would always have hers too, so they made a great pair in Brent's mind.
Brent and Arrow left the den's immediate grounds and took off into the wild. Brent's wolf form was large and imposing, much like other werewolves. Brent's fur was mostly black but he had some white in his face and haunches. Arrow was a little smaller than he and prided herself on her speed. Brent may have been larger but that also meant his leg muscles were larger, so he had little trouble in keeping up with Arrow. Although his bulk made it a little more difficult to go to all of the same places Arrow could.
As Arrow and Brent continued running around and playing games, they both heard a report from a rifle. The first report was followed by another a moment later. It wasn't hunting season Brent thought to himself, poachers. Brent hated poachers! Now the packs laws stated they couldn't kill humans and Brent wouldn't anyways, but they could always go scare the crap out them. Brent motioned with his head to Arrow in the direction of the rifle reports. Arrow nodded an agreement and bolted in that direction, the shots had sounded close so they didn't have far to run.
Arrow stopped just in sight of the action. A wolf had been run to ground by four dogs, and a poacher was closing in with a rifle, calling his dogs to fall back. The wolf had one of the dogs by the throat, as the hunter moved into position. Brent bolted toward the poacher, see wolves are not a common sight in New Jersey, coyotes sure, but not wolves. Brent didn't need to catch this wolf's scent to guess it was a werewolf, even if it was on the smaller side.
Brent charged and leapt at the poacher who saw him way too late to react properly. The poacher tried to turn, but Brent was charging to fast. Brent leapt through the air and tackled the man, landing on top of him. Brent lowered his muzzle inches from the mans face and let out a bestial growl. The effect was better than Brent had hoped, the man passed out, and judging by the new smell in the air, he had soiled himself. Satisfied Brent turned back to see if Arrow was dealing with the dogs.

Arrow loved running through the forest in her wolf form and having Brent at her side made it much more fun. She shook out her Silver colored coat, her paws, muzzle and tail gradually darkened to black, it looked like they had been dipped in ink. The She wolf let out a happy yip and brushed against Brent when she passed him as they ran. Playfully darting through openings she knew the bigger male would have to go around. She stopped though when she heard a gunshot. Her ears swiveled towards the noise and her nose twitched. She smelt one male human, four dogs and a unfamiliar young Were. She turned vivid blue eyes to Brent and nodded when to motioned towards the noise.
She followed quickly after Brent, this time staying together instead of running ahead of him. Once they found the source of the shots Arrow saw the smallest were she'd ever seen wounded on the ground in front of the hunter and the three remaining dogs. Protective instincts kicked in and the Silver and black wolf jumped from her hiding spot. Landing gracefully in front of the young were. The fur on the back of her neck rose and her head lowered as a growl rumbled low in her chest. Brent had the poacher so she was left with the three dogs. She saw the poacher eye her and she showed him her razor sharp teeth in a mocking smile before Brent lunged for him.
Arrow didn't give the dogs time to attack her, her lips lifted in a snarl, showing her large fangs and she dove for them. Her claws and teeth ripped into the first dog, easily ending its life as her mouth closed on its throat. She whirled, blood dripping from her muzzle as she intercepted the next one who had started to lunge for her, it managed to bloody her ear but didn't no any real damage to it before she forced it to let go with a bite of her own. As she tore at the second one the third saw an opportunity and attacked, going for her soft under belly. Arrow tried to twist out of the way while still fighting the second dog, but felt the Thirds fangs slice into her side. She growled in annoyance and pain but finished the second dog off and snapped at the third to get him to let go of her. With a powerful crunch she grabbed onto the back of its neck and closed her jaws. Blood filled her mouth as the dog sagged.
Turning her attention on the wolf, her eyes scanned him for any other injuries and when she saw just the one, she padded over to him and licked the side of his face. Nudging him with her snout and whining softly to ask if he was alright. 'The poor thing must be terrified, I wonder where his pack is?' she thought

The gunshot never came.
At the sound of others, Emile's eyes snapped open as two other wolves leapt to his defense and dealt with his would-be-murders. As the female approached and nudged him he licked her snout as a sign of greeting before dragging himself to his paws. He was much smaller than she - and the male was outright massive - but he wagged his tail regardless to show he didn't mean any harm as much as they did either.
He glanced to the wound on his side - it stung and would make changing back much more painful and tedious. Regardless, he couldn't communicate in this form, so he stepped back and began to shift.
It went on for several long agonizing minutes the boy forced himself back into human form. Many times he almost cried out in agony but sheer willpower forced him not to as his features began to come back and his hair grew once more; the fur being pushed back under his skin. He shifted, sitting to his side so he was facing slighting away from the two wolves. He smiled softly, though the wound in his side was still bloody it would heal much quicker.
"Th...Thankyou. You both saved my life." He whispered quietly, shivering slightly from the cold. Though it was true it wasn't as bad as if he'd been human it was still cold enough. He looked between the pair.
"My name is... Emile Avaant. I came because... I heard about a pack and wanted to join. My mother and father died a year ago and... i've been alone since. I don't want to be alone anymore." He whispered sadly and dipped his head, his hair covering his face for a moment before he looked up and smiled.
"You're both really brave though! You like... just stopped them!" He beamed happily, wincing as he shifted the wrong way. It was clear just how small he was, though for being outside on his own he was far from hungry.

Brent watched as the new werewolf began the cumbersome process of shifting. Brent decided to begin his shifting as well, as to better communicate with the young werewolf. Brent actually beat the young boy, but that was just because he was wounded, it slows down the process even more. When the boy was done shifting Brent was correct about his assumption of the boy being young, he was born a werewolf then Brent thought. Eventually the boy, Emile, introduced himself.
"Don't worry, you won't have to be alone anymore." Brent felt bad for him, Emile was orphaned and on his own. A part of Brent was a little suspicious of him though, it could be a sob story to gain their trust after all. "My names Brent, its a pleasure to meet you...", he said stealing a glance back at Arrow, "...and I don't know about brave, but I personally don't like poachers!"
Brent stared back at the passed out poacher, "We should be gone before he comes too, we don't want him to suspect werewolves. Hopefully he'll just assume his imagination played tricks on him regarding our size." With the unconsciousness and the fear of the moment, Brent reasoned that this was very likely.
"Well we have a house not too far from here, you could come with us if you like Emile." Brent wanted to leave the area before the poacher woke up, and to get away from the smell of his soiled pants. "Plus this guy is really starting to reek." Brent looked at Emile's wound, "Do you need me to carry you?"

Arrow pressed up against the boy as he shivered, lending him her warmth, making sure not to get any of her blood on him. Her wound was small and not even worth looking at, it'd close in a few hours. She rubbed herself against him as she got up, brushing her tail across his cheek when she passed him and began her own change after Brent was done. Her and Brent's changes only lasted around two minuets because of the pack bond so she changed fairly quickly, even with her minor wounds.
Once she was in her human form Arrow turned her gentle blue eyes to the boy. She smiled at his enthusiasm and ruffled his hair affectionately when she bent down to his level. She pulled off the jacket she had been wearing and wrapped it around him "here, you look like your freezing." she told him gently, tucking a stray strand of hair behind his ear before standing back up to her full height. She glanced over at Brent and took out her phone when he mentioned the den. "Vis said he'd be out for a little while so the place will be empty for a bit. I bet he's running as a wolf so he won't be answering his phone. " She looked down at Emile and smiled again, "Vis is our Alpha, he won't mind if we take you to the den to fix you up a bit, he'll be really excited that you want to join the pack." She reassured him.
Arrow knew she should be wary of new comers but she couldn't hep but fall in love with this young boys innocents and he smelled of truth so far. The girl tossed her dark black hair over her shoulder and nodded as Brent offered to carry the young Were. "We'll get you fixed up in no time. and don't you worry, you're safe with us."

Emile smiled at the woman as she huddled herself against him; he leaned against her for a few seconds before she passed behind him to change back to human; in the mean time he looked back to the man.
"Its a pleasure to meet you too, Brent!"
He smiled at the man, before nodding and pulling a disgusted face as he realized exactly what the bad smell was and where it was coming from.
"He does smell. Ew..."
Emile smiled as he felt the coat fall over his shoulders; his shivering died down enough that he wasn't shaking like he was going to have a seizure or something, and he blushed a little when she tucked a strand of his hair behind his ear.
"Thank you for the coat, are you sure you won't get cold? I mean, i'd feel bad if you did and I took it...
He frowned softly before he perked up at the mention of an Alpha, but he mentally cringed too. His old Alpha had been a tyrant and a monster, a murderer of people. He was the one that had ruined everything he had with his pack - but for now he couldn't express that and seem rude.
"I really wouldn't wanna be a bother to anyone, but i'd love to come with you and meet your Alpha!"
He beamed as he got to his feet, wincing in pain as he shook his head to the man's question about if he wanted to be carried - he didn't want to seem even more useless than he felt inside.
"I can walk, I'm sure."
The young boy smiled as he waited for exactly which direction the house at, and by reflex he pressed closer to Arrow, resting his head lightly on her side as he would do a motherly figure - he bonds rather quickly to people, and she was no exception to the image.

Brent realized his mistake in shifting back into human form. When the poacher comes to, he will most likely notice the human footprints. It was too late now, shifting back wasn't really an option, he's already shifted twice in a pretty short amount of time. "Arrow, Emile I need you two to stand over there", Brent said pointing to a spot away from the scene of the battle. Brent took meticulous care in sweeping up the large wolf paw prints and their human tracks.
"Okay, you two stay ahead of me, and be on the lookout for more poachers." Brent continued to sweep away their trail as they walked. Hopefully when the poacher awoke he'd panic at the sight of his slain dogs and he'd flee the scene. Although Brent was cleaning up their prints as they went, a skilled tracker would be able to follow the trail that they were leaving.
After a while, Brent took the lead. "Alright you two, follow me, I'll lead the way." Brent did just that, looking around carefully, just to make sure there were no other poachers present. He also used his keen sense of smell to try to sense any others out there, but he only tried after he had gotten far enough away from the fallen poacher, phew. Brent moved back toward the pack's den cautiously as he Lead Emile and Arrow.
Brent also took notice of how quickly Emile was attaching himself to Arrow, Brent still couldn't help but be a little suspicious. He hoped Emile was genuine, its just Brent has been burned by the whole innocent act before. Its not that Brent is the suspicious, and not trusting type... wait maybe he is a little, but just a little. Brent has been betrayed by people he has trusted in the past. So Brent decided to keep an eye on Emile, but he won't distrust him until given a reason to. Brent was a little more worried what Levi might think though, he was quite the militant type and they tend to be very suspicious. But to be fair Brent still didn't know Levi that well.
"Emile you said your parents died a year ago, I'm really sorry to hear that. Have you been on your own this entire time?" Brent wasn't trying to interrogate Emile, but looking for inconstancies in his story couldn't hurt, after all Brent was essentially taking responsibility for letting Emile into and knowing the location of the pack den. So was Arrow for that matter, and she was his best friend as far as Brent was concerned, he'd never forgive himself if something happened to her. Brent knew Arrow could handle herself, its just a protective friend thing. Brent knew Arrow wouldn't want anything bad to happen to him either.
Brent also needed to inform Vis of the poacher intruding so close to the pack's land. Brent handled the situation to the best of his ability, he hoped Vis wouldn't be displeased about anything that him and Arrow did. Brent was really in the mood to have his Alpha reprimand him, plus Brent and his wolf were a little to dominant to tolerate it. We'll just have to wait and see I guess, Brent thought to himself.

"No, don't worry about me, I'm not cold at all." Arrow smiled when the boy rested his head on her side as they walked, she lifted her arm and draped it across his shoulders. "My name's Arrow, by the way." She knew she was getting a little too attached to him a little too quickly but she'd always been the mothering type, though she had always been too busy taking care of her drugged out older brothers to put it to practice with babysitting or the like. Even at a young age she had always wanted a baby doll or a stuffed animal to care for, something that depended on her, so that she could feel needed and important. She pushed away thoughts of her brothers and focused on keeping her senses open to any other intruders as they made their way back to the Den.
She didn't mind Brent giving orders, though her wolf was a slightly annoyed, She knew he was just taking care of them and she was glad for that. The young boy needed to see Brent being protective and cautious."We'll have to tell Vis about the poacher when he comes back." She said to Brent, not knowing that he had been thinking that same thing.
Absentmindedly, her hand rubbed up and down Emile's shoulder, helping to chase away the cold. Once they entered the Den, Arrow stepped away from Emile and grabbed some bandages and a blanket off one of the couches before returning and bending down to look at his wound. "Now, this might hurt a bit." Arrow knew how to bandage and fix up just about any wound. Her brothers had done some stupid things while high and one had even been grazed by a bullet once, and she'd always been the one to fix them up after they crashed. that bullet scare had motivated her to read up on hot to tend to all sorts of wounds and cuts, her brothers would always be willing to do something stupid and dangerous and knowing she would be the only one there to help because they would refuse to go to the hospital.
Once she was finished she smiled and patted his arm, handing him the blanket if he wanted it. "now you're all fixed up. Anything you need?"

Emile dropped his face at Brent's question, chewing his lip for several moments in thought. His eyes flickered across the ground before he replied.
"I have been alone this whole time. I grew up in a pack so I knew to keep away from people if I was alone but..." He frowned "My old Alpha was a monster. He got us found out so me and my parents hid on a ship to keep me safe but they... got poisoned or something. They died a day before we got here."
He fell into silence after that as the neared the massive house, to which Emile perked up with a soft gasp. It was huge! He walked in after them (taking his shoes off to be sure) and into the living room where Arrow fixed up his side. He hissed in pain a little but smiled and lightly took a seat.
"Its nice to meet you by the way Arrow." He smiled before he shook his head slightly "No thank you... are you sure I'm welcome? I mean I don't want to be a burden..."
He brought his legs up to his chest on the couch and tipped his head forward in thought for several moments before he smiled.
"Am I small for a Were or are your wolf forms just very big? Because... you both looked big. I think its why that bad man chased me..." He smiled to them in a way that was almost assuredly adorable. Still, it was just part of who he was.

Brent kept all of his senses trained on Emile as he answered Brent's question. Emile's sorrow seemed pretty authentic to Brent's senses, he was sure Emile could not have faked his reaction to Brent's question. Brent would trust the boy for now, but just to be on the safe side he would keep an eye on him.
Brent would also keep an eye out for him, Brent too knew what it was like to be alone, to be packless. Brent decided to put forth Emile as a potential pack member to Vis, the boy obviously wished to belong to a pack as much as Brent did. Brent knew his and Emile's circumstances may have been different, but they shared the same feeling of loneliness. I have no idea how lone wolves deal with the loneliness, Brent thought to himself.
Brent couldn't help but to smile at Emile's amazement when they reached the pack's den. The kid was quite adorable Brent thought. Brent then watched as Arrow tended to his wound, Emile hissed a little in pain, but for the most part toughed it out. Then Emile mentioned how he didn't want to be a burden, Brent would let Arrow field that statement, she would probably answer better than he would. Emile just sat there rocking back and forth a little bit before he spoke again.
"Well to answer your question, yes you are rather small for a werewolf, but you are still young. You will grow bigger eventually." Brent thought about the poacher again, "Actually I don't think your size was the only factor for the poacher hunting you. Wolves are not actually native to New Jersey, so a wolf killed here would be quite the prize for a poacher." Damn poachers Brent thought, I have no problem with hunting obviously, but poachers break their own society's laws in hunting out of season. Plus they tend not to care what or how many they kill, they usually just want a pelt to sell. They are in it for the money, not the skill. "Plus a large wolf like one of us, would make a very tempting target to a poacher."

The female were's eyes left left the boy while he spoke of why he was here. She was saddened by his past and wanted to comfort him. "I'm sorry about what happened." she told him softly, placing a gentle hand under his chin to get him to look up at her "Your here now though, and I'm sure Vis would love to have you in our pack. He's a very fair alpha." she didn't want to speak for Vis but thought thats what Emile needed to hear, besides, she knew Vis wouldn't be able to turn the child away.
Arrow smiled and shook her head at his question, sitting down next to the boy on the couch. "why would you think you're not welcome?" she asked gently " and you're no burden at all, besides, a little drama now and then makes things interesting don't you think?" she added with a playful smile. "You hungry? I'm a a wicked cook." she told Emile, shooting a quick glare at Brent to make sure he didn't mention the first time she had cooked in the Den. Her stove at home was 100 degrees off so she always set the food to bake 100 degrees higher than normal. The stove in the Den however was perfectly fine and when Arrow forgot and set it like she would her own stove... well, the whole Den had smelt like smoke for more then a few days and dinner, to say the least, was ruined.

"Oh..."
Emile nodded in reply to Brent's answer. It made perfect sense after all, and Emile kinda hoped he wouldn't grow up too much. Though he was small, he liked it because he could get to places larger Weres couldn't; not to mention he was more inclined to get hugs and stuff.
He smiled at Arrow now and what she said.
"Thank you very much, I hope your Alpha likes me..."
He smiled softly, looking out the window for a moment in thought once more. His lips pursed together and he shook his head a little to clear the thoughts he had, before he replied once more.
"Just because... well, you both could have gotten hurt saving me. And I saw what that dog did to your ear Arrow..."
He winced softly, frowning. The wound wasn't too bad but it was a wound she needn't have taken because of him - he wasn't worth that, not to a stranger at least. He felt guilty for it, before he smiled at her question.
"I'm not hungry, but thank you. Could I have some water please? I was drinking at the river when the bad man started chasing me."
He smiled softly before he turned back to Brent with a devious cute smile on his face, blue eyes lighting up.
"I bet you couldn't pin me down, Brent."
He giggled, signifying he really just wanted to play and take his mind of the whole ordeal of nearly dying. Brent would probably have little trouble as a wolf due to his sheer size but still, there wasn't any harm in having a little fun now, was there?
He hopped off the couch and shifted; this time the pain was hardly noticeable - there, but it wasn't bad and didn't take nearly as long, only about two minutes or so.
Now the size of a normal adult wolf - but again, a pup for a were - he dropped his front end down and 'hopped' back and forth, trying to entice Brent, his tail wagging furiously in excitement.

So Emile wanted to play and in wolf form too, Brent had already shifted twice within the past hour. The more you shift in a short amount of time, the more difficult it became. Brent was about to object but Emile already began shifting into his tiny werewolf form. Brent sighed, "Okay, but just so you know my shifting is going to take a bit longer, I've shifted twice already today in less than an hour." Emile was lucky that their mutual sense of loss and loneliness had created a sense of kinship for Brent. "Just give me a little bit of time, and I can't guarantee I'll have the energy to play for long."
Brent began the increasingly arduous task of shifting. Not only was it more difficult, and taking longer than usual to shift, it was taking a lot more of his energy to do so. If Brent wasn't careful he was going to exhaust himself. The wolf part of Brent didn't mind too much, it was relishing the opportunity to run free. Brent usually didn't change unless needed or the full moon dictated, he liked to conserve his strength for when it was most needed. Brent's wolf side didn't always like this but it did accept it as necessary, plus Brent did let it run free, like what had been planned for today.
Brent finally completed the change, and he was right in fearing he'd exhaust himself, because he did. Brent had avoided pulling on the strength of the pack, as he only did so in emergencies, which this was not. Bent looked up at the little Emile, who was still hopping around. Brent knew he couldn't match his energy level right now so he'd have to outwit the boy.
Brent bent his head down low and began panting heavily, hoping to get the boy to drop his guard and to hold still. Although as Brent did this he realized not all of it was an act. When the opportunity presented itself, Brent sprang into action with as much energy as he could muster, Emile probably didn't suspect Brent to move so fast. Brent managed to throw his stomach over the smaller wolf's back, so Brent just laid down. He used his massive bulk to pin the younger werewolf, but made sure not to smother him.
Brent laid there, with the younger wolf beneath him, pretty much too tired to move. Brent turned to his head toward Emile's and grinned as much as his animal features would allow. Brent decided to just lay here for a bit, just to see what Emile would do. If Emile conceded defeat Brent would let him up of course.

Arrow touched a finger to her ear, when it came away bloody she let out a surprised noise. "Oh, don't worry about me, It barely even hurts now. Though I will wash up after I get your drink." she told the younger wolf, pushing herself up off the couch and smiling when she heard the pup challenge Brent to a play fight. Emile being here sure was going to stir things up a bit.
She brought out a glass of ice water and arrived to see Emile, butt in the air in wolf form and tail wagging happily. she grinned, glancing at Brent as he begrudgingly started to shift again for the third time that day. she knew he'd be exhausted when he changed back into his human form. She made a tisking noise at him, teasing. Before she left to wash the blood off her hair.
when she returned, hair blood free and looking a bit more refreshed, she froze at what she saw.
