Brodir had just awoken for the night. He hoped tonight would be a little better than the previous. Last night had been one of the most baffling of his long existence. You see Brodir had over heard a conversation between a group of what they call teenagers these nights. Back in Brodir's living days they would all have been adults, but the times have changed. This modern era coddles their youth, claims they aren't adults till the age of eighteen. No wonder the people of tonight are weaker than those of times past, society has pushed off the age responsibility, encouraging immaturity and languidness. Anyways Back to the teenagers, Brodir had over heard their conversation and could barely comprehend what they had been saying.
Brodir had decided to shadow the teenagers in order to see if he could decipher their speech. Brodir wasn't sure if they were using a great amount of modern argot or if the English language had changed that much among the younger generations. When Brodir had lived in New York city he hadn't had much contact with the younger generations, in fact he used his duties as sheriff to avoid the younger people of tonight. But Brodir is no longer a sheriff, and had much time on his hands. This lead to his encounter with those teenagers. After last night Brodir had truly begun to feel his age, so he decided to seek out an expert in the English language to tutor him in the vernacular of tonight's youth.
Brodir had tried the Internet but the language used there was even more baffling, he definitely needed a human tutor.
Brodir crawled from the hidden space where he slept the day away in his apartment. Brodir dressed himself in his usual attire these night, black leather boots, dark blue jeans, and a dress shirt. He chose a burgundy colored dress shirt for tonight, and topped it off with his black leather jacket. This jacket was relatively new, Brodir tended to be rather hard on his clothing, so had to replace them quite often.
Brodir decided to head to the local university campus, he could find an English instructor, as formal instruction of the language you spoke seemed to be required at such institutions, or so Brodir had heard. Brodir had never attended university as he pretty much predated the concept. In fact Brodir had never attended a school of any kind, as a child he had learned everything he needed to know from his parents. As a man the battlefield had been his teacher. Then when he was made vampire, his maker Ysabel had instructed him in what he needed to know. Anything else Brodir had learned himself, but the use of the English language he had heard last night confounded him.
Brodir had decided to drive to the university as his rather expensive silver 2009 Aston Martin DB9 didn't get much use. Brodir wondered if he would be able to find someone to instruct him, without requiring him to attend a class on the subject. He didn't exactly relish the idea of attending an actual class with humans, so he planned to avoid it. If it came to it he was even willing to go so far as to glamour someone into agreeing to instruct him in the vernacular of the youth of tonight.
Brodir found a parking space on campus near a campus directory. Brodir got out of his car and locked the doors with the remote on his key-chain. Brodir examined the campus directory, which was a fancy way of saying a map of the university grounds he thought to himself. Brodir found the location of the building that housed the English department, so he decided to run there with the speed granted to him by his advanced vampiric age. Brodir came to a halt outside and casually walked into the building. As he had guessed the classrooms were still full, classes seemed to be held even into the night.
Brodir decided to bypass the classes and head for the offices reserved for the professors indicated by a sign on the wall. Brodir walked by the office doors and looked through the little glass panes. Most of the offices were vacant, but Brodir found one that was occupied. The sign next to the door indicated that the office belonged to a professor Katherine Alamai, Brodir smirked, he recalled a time when woman were forbidden to learn at universities. Now they were aloud to teach at them, good Brodir thought, women were just as capable as men, its about time society realized it.
Brodir reached out and knocked on professor Alamai's office door. He truly hoped he wasn't interrupting anything important. Brodir paused at the door after knocking, waiting for permission to enter.
