So, Emile had learned in short order why it was never advisable to force yourself to shift in under five seconds flat. He could hardly move his body in any form, let alone sit up. If he had to go anywhere it was carried, and even then not without muffled whimpers of pain - but it could have been worse.
Ever might have died.
The thought made the small Were wince slightly as he shifted upon his makeshift nest of pillows upon his bed. Levi was up and about and Ever had been for the past four days, which was good - but he was in a far worse condition due to the strain he'd forced on his body, and most of it he couldn't remember doing, which sucked.
He grit his teeth as he shifted his arm enough to lay it on his stomach. He currently didn't have a shirt on (It was a very hot day outside and even with an open window it was nuts) so as he glanced down he noticed a scar - a very big scar actually, like something had taken a chunk out of his side. He frowned softly and touched the area, but didn't feel anything. Maybe he'd been shot. He Oh'd softly to himself as he remembered. Yeah, he'd been shot - or glanced, rather - but an old man with a shotgun back in England, and that had hurt. There where probably still bits inside him that shifting couldn't force out. He'd have to get Levi to maybe think about getting them out incase they got anywhere he didn't want them to go.
He looked up to his door, hearing the sounds of the rest of the pack moving around. He wished he could join them, or even go anywhere, actually, but he couldn't. Not until he healed and all, because he had almost zero leg strength without breaking into tears from the pain, and Emi was used to pain. He bit his lip and sighed, managing to shift himself to look out the window into the woodland. Ever would be due her first hunt soon, and he'd come to terms with the fact he really liked the girl - more than perhaps he'd felt for a long time.
A small smile tipped his face before he looked back to the door.

JUST STAND THROUGH THE PAIN AND YOU WON"T DROWN. Alone in this fight with herself and her fears whispering if she stands she'll fall down.
Arrow wiped her hands on a dish towel and picked up the three bowls of soup she'd made. Usually Brent was the resident cook, but she wanted to keep busy. If she kept her self busy enough she didn't have to think about Vis. Though, there was still that ever constant hollow feeling in her chest, she tried not to show it. She'd had her time to herself in her room a few days after to devote to Vis' memory and morn, but now she didn't want to go back to that. She didn't what to have to think about how they had been talking about having pups of their own, or about how sometimes she'd catch him just looking at her with a smile on his lips. Or how she'd thought she'd finally found what she had been looking f- Her breath hitched in her throat and she grimaced, she stopped her thought pattern and focused of the bowls of soup in her hands. Having so many people to take care of did help, she kept busy, moving from one room to the other and tending to each. She fussed over Emile and Levi the most, but had only gone into Ever's room a few times, knowing she might not feel comfortable with her just yet.
"Emile?" she called gently, pushing open the door to his room, pausing just a moment when her eyes landed on Ever. She smiled warmly and set the three bowls down. "Its good to see you up and about Ever, I take it you're feeling better?" She asked, motioning towards the bowls of soup. "Help you're self." Arrow then turned her eyes on Emile, rearranging his blankets and pillows and fussing shamelessly over the boy. "How are you feeling today Sweetie? Do you think I could help you sit up enough for some soup or would it hurt to much?"

For the last three days Levi had been laid up in bed, constantly fed by Arrow and, when she had visited, Tinsley. Technically he hadn't needed to be in bed after the first day, but it wasn't every day that Levi got waited on a lovely young lady. Oh, he wasn't chasing Arrow, she was a bit too young for his tastes and grieving the loss of Vis besides, but that didn't mean he couldn't appreciate the concept. Besides, he'd had to stay awake for a full 24 hours after Georgia had gotten them back so that he could be sure that he wasn't bleeding into his skull. That had taken quite a lot of energy and it was relaxing to lie back in bed, sleeping when you felt like it and working on technical drawings when you weren't.
Four days was more than enough time to be lying up and, although he still had to be very careful with his head, Levi was capable of being up and about. The fracture still had a few days to go until it healed, but he wasn't feeling dizzy or nauseas any more, which was a plus. In fact, the only real sign that anything had happened was a constant headache right at the back of his head, a combination of Emile's outburst and the fractured skull. He'd ignored the pain for the last few days and figured that he should give it until the end of the week before he started worrying.
Having dressed and shaved for the first time in four days, Levi made his way over to Emile's room. Levi, Brent and Arrow had discussed Em's punishment and had decided to wait until Emile was up and about before telling him what they had decided, but Levi wanted to have a chat with him about what had happened before they passed judgement. What Em said wouldn't affect his punishment, but Levi wanted to prepare him for it, so that it wasn't a shock to the boy. He owed em that much, the small Were having saved his life and the life of Everleigh.
Smelling soup, Levi followed the smell to Emile's room. He could hear Arrow and Everleigh talking, which meant that he wouldn't get a moment alone with Em, but that didn't matter. He knew that Everleigh had been sick for a good while, so it was good to see her up and about. It also meant that he could introduce himself properly and get to know her a little before Emile recovered and started to monopolise her time. If there was one thing that Emile was good at, it was playing, and he was going to see Everleigh as the ideal playmate.
Poking his head around the door before he walked into the room, Levi waved and grinned at everyone.
"Looks like we're just about all in your room, Em. Good thing it's big, eh?"

Emile smiled at Arrow and Ever, seeing no real need to introduce them - because they'd just done it themselves. Arrow came over and immediately started fussing over him, which the small boy had to admit he loved, mostly because it took Arrow's mind of Vis, and however far on it was, it was still fresh to the pack. Still, that pack now included Ever, and that was something else to take their mind off it.
"Hey Arrow!"
He beamed, managing to sit up. His joints had loosened enough, so while it did hurt it wasn't as unbearable as it had been. He smiled and nodded, taking the soup and resting it so he wouldn't burn himself, using the spoon to sip the rather beautiful soup. Chicken it was, which was fitting. Weres didn't often eat vegetables or fruit, their dietary needs where a bit different.
"See? I'm fine! But thank you for the soup and generally fussing me..."
He giggled before he looked up as Levi entered the room. If he wasn't so fixated on soup - or had it in his mouth - he'd have found a way to hug the man. Instead he nodded furiously, grinning. He still felt bad for letting Levi get hurt but he was okay now, right? He swallowed the soup before he cleared his throat.
"Um... Everleigh kinda knows everything. I told her earlier, because, well, she's in the pack now..."
He whispered softly, looking down for several seconds, eyes flickering across the quilt before he smiled. This next thing was more so if anything was seen it wouldn't come as a great surprise, but actually getting the nerve up was hard.
"And... Me and Ever are..."
He blushed and took a mouthful of soup, nearly choking on it because he forgot to swallow it. He spluttered before breaking out into a giggle fit, but the blush didn't die. He glanced to Ever and smiled softly, biting his lip as he looked to Arrow and Levi.
God he wouldn't here the end of it from Levi. And actually that reminded him...
"Oh, Levi, I just remembered I got shot. Um. I think there are bits inside still."

Brent had been sitting in the living room listening to all that was said in Emile's room. Truth was Brent was still furious with Emile for turning Everleigh without her consent. Brent sat there and wondered what he should do. Turning a human without consent was one of the few crimes Brent believed deserved capitol punishment, among werewolves at least. If Vis had still been alive Brent knew Emile would have been executed by now, many of Vis' punishments for violating pack laws were death. Which wasn't that uncommon in werewolf society as a whole. Again it was one of the few crimes Brent agreed with werewolf society on about werewolves being executed for. Brent decided that the pack as a whole should discuss Emile's punishment, he wasn't to keen about having to execute someone so soon, though he personally believed Emile deserved it.
Brent stood up from the couch and walked slowly toward Emile's room. Brent was worried about looking too harsh in front of the pack, but he knew this was something that needed to be done. Brent walked into Emile's room and said, "I am glad everyone is here, we need to talk." Brent looked down at Everleigh, "This concerns you too, so you need to hear this. I would like you to stay." This was probably going to be a fight but Brent knew he had to stay the course.
Brent looked to each of his pack members except Emile, "Emile violated one of the pack laws when he turned Everleigh. In fact it is our highest law, has been even under Vis." Brent looked around to everyone again, once more excluding Emile. "Do I have to remind any of you what the penalty was under Vis? It was death." Brent let that sink in before he continued. "The only reason I haven't killed Emile yet is because I managed to get Everleigh to consent before she passed out again. But just so I am clear this never happens again." Brent put on a more authoritative look, "If anyone turns a human again without their consent, no matter the reason, it is an automatic death sentence. Am I understood?"
"Now before I open the floor to discuss what Emile's punishment will be...", Brent finally turns and looks at Emile, "...I have two of my own to start with." Brent let his anger and frustration at Emile flood his voice, so Emile would know how serious this was. "First, you have shown a serious lack of judgment and therefore are not allowed to leave the den without Arrow, Levi, or myself escorting you." Brent decided to not state what the punishment would be if he disobeyed any of these punishments, he felt the not knowing was scarier. "Second you and Everleigh are nothing. You have lost the right to take a mate. Again, am I understood? And these punishments are to last until I have decided otherwise." Brent turned away from Emile once more, "So what say the rest of you on how Emile should be punished?"

She actually remembered him from the park and, considering the state she had been in, she just remembered him as someone who had helped her. Right at the moment, though, he seemed pissed. She moved a bit closer to Em. Everleigh really didn't know Brent other than from the park so seeing him so pissed was intimidating. When Brent looked at her and asked her to stay it went against every natural instinct she had at moments like this. When Ever was scared she usually ran and hid.
She nodded at Brent silently. His words might have been formed as a request but, to Ever, it seemed more like a command. She parked herself next to Em and tried to stay very still. Everleigh's eyes roamed the room, landing on everyone around her for a moment before she glanced back at Brent.
Everleigh couldn't help the gasp that escaped her throat when Brent started to speak to the group. She had no idea that saving her life was such a horrible crime among werewolves. If she had known, she would have told Brent to kill her. Better her than Em, as far as Ever was concerned. She got so tense that tears filled her eyes and she unconsciously dug her nails so deep into her palms that she drew blood. Not that she felt it. She was too focused on what Brent was saying.
Honestly, Ever really didn't understand. She thought that the pack was a family to Emile. How could Brent talk so easily of killing him or any of the others? The only reason I haven't killed Emile yet...Oh, God, it could still happen.. |
The edges of Ever's vision started to get gray as the conversation continued. She was weak still anyway. This stress was going to make her pass out. She could feel it. Emile's going to be punished for saving her....it was hard for Ever to not focus on that. She had been so grateful that Em had found her and rescued her. She saw Em and everyone else that had helped her that night as heros. Now listening to Brent, he made it sound like it was better that she was dead than alive. Ever hugged herself so tight that her hands were turning white. When Brent said that Em couldn't leave the den without an adult Ever was slightly relieved that Em's punishment was so minor considering that Brent had just been talking about killing him. It didn't make her relax any though. She had a feeling it wasn't over. Second, you and Everleigh are nothing. You have lost the right to take a mate. And that was when the room started to sway. Not only had her entire existence changed forever but now Brent was taking away the person she was closest to in her new life. Her mouth opened to speak but no words would come. She felt like the one being punished. What did Brent mean? Was she supposed to stay away from Em? Did it mean that she couldn't bond to him? Well, too late for that. How were they not supposed to feel what they already did feel for each other? What were they supposed to do? Then another thought hit Ever and she gripped the side of the bed with her bleeding hands. How is Em going to react? She hoped he wouldn't flip out and do anything stupid. Everleigh wanted to tell him that, beg for him not to overreact but when she turned her head she finally lost her battle with consciousness, and her grip on the bed. She blacked out, slumping to the floor* [/style][style=margin-top: 3px; border-top: 1px dashed blue; text-align: center; font-size: 8px]made by gimmick/echo of OtE, TB, and MR[/style]

When Brent walked in, everything changed.
Emile's body went suddenly cold as he listened to the words that spilled from his new Alpha's lips. His mind - both of them - had trouble quite understanding what he was being told. He blinked several times, not looking at the others around him. He had the faintest sensation of Arrow's hands wrapping around his arms, but he didn't even try to struggle.
So lost was he in disbelief that he didn't even register the veiled threat that Brent could have killed him for what he did to Ever - save her life. That was probably for the best actually, and even when he was punished by being unable to leave the Den without an adult, he could stomach that. He had Ever, didn't he? He didn't need to go anywhere because she was here.
The next punishment hit him first like a ton of bricks; so hard he felt himself go weak; his head began to swim and The Wolf yelped and whined in panic, temporarily unsure of what it's human body was doing. It didn't have the concept of many emotions, but the effect of outright being denied his mate did have an effect.
It was a saving grace that Arrow had not only such a tight but strong grip, because Emile - with a force that belied his weakened body - threw himself forward out of the blue, caught on Arrow's grip and was thrown back against the pillows; the frame of the bed slamming into the wall from the impact. It took every ounce of his control - and only because Ever was there - that he didn't loose himself.
Arrow would feel the hairs on his arms stick up; his lips curled back over his teeth and his eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. Emile was in a fury right now, not as mindless as it had been at the ball or park but this was potentially far more deadly. He glared right back at Brent.
"I have done nothing wrong. I saved her life, Brent. She is ten years old, I could NOT leave her to die there! "
He snarled, his chest rising and falling so heavily it looked almost inhuman. His Wolf was out now, but the two mingled; neither having full control but both being in such a fury that they saw no cause to outweigh the other. How could he stand there and deny her everything when all she had wanted was a stable family?
"You are my Alpha, I would die for you. But I cannot accept this. For saving her life I cannot be with her? No. She is mine, and I am hers. I have no trouble with the first punishment, I deserve that for loosing my cool."
Emile was walking an extremely thin line here; one he may have well already crossed it, but he didn't care. At the sound of Ever fainting he tore himself from Arrow's grasp and in a flurry leapt off the bed and knelt down, cradling her head in one hand, the other wrapped around her waist. He looked down at her face before back at Brent, gritting his teeth. He stood back up with the small girl in his arms - but he didn't want to leave without seeing the other's reactions.
"She is my Mate. I love her. She is mine, and you will not take that away from me. Do you understand me, Brent?"
He said simply, eyes narrowing further if that was even possible. This was not a challenge or a threat, simply a promise. He could exile him, do whatever he wished, but to deny Emi the right to mate would both be mental torture for he and his wolf, but potentially damaging - even more than he had already - for Ever.

JUST STAND THROUGH THE PAIN AND YOU WON"T DROWN. Alone in this fight with herself and her fears whispering if she stands she'll fall down.
As soon a Brent came in Arrow straightened, knowing what was about to happen, she knew at some point they were going to have to have a talk, now seemed as good a time as ever. she glanced at Emile and moved closer to him as Brent start talking, knowing he wasn't going to like what their Alpha had to say. When Brent mentioned how Vis would have reacted to Emile breaking the laws she reacted to his name, stiffening just a bit. Though she did agree, Vis would have killed Emile by now.
She was ready when Emile threw himself against her arms, lunging at Brent. She made a low sound in the back of her throat, a warning, but she didn't think Emile heard it. He was acting before thinking again, if she hadn't have been holding him back, then Emile would have lost himself and in this small room that might have resulted in his death. Attacking the Alpha was a very bad idea. When Ever fainted Arrow loosened her hold on Emile, about to step in and grab her before he hit the ground, she was a fragile one, but Emile got there first, cradling the girl in his arms. This was getting out of control.
"Emile, you need to calm down." she said, her voice low and firm. "You need to accept that you messed up, yes you saved Ever, but you need to understand that you did not ask her before turning her. What if she didn't want this life? You had no way of knowing that. You have to think about that, some people are not made for this life. When I was changed It took me time to get in touch with my wolf, and during that time I did some things, horrible things that I regret to this day. Some people can't come to grips with their wolf and kill themselves. What if Ever would have rather died human then live as a werewolf? If I would have been asked if I wanted to be turned into a were, I would have said no. Even though I love my pack, I would have rather died then be turned and kill the people I did." She told him truthfully, in the year that she had been with out a pack she had killed many people, every full moon for a year her wolf ran wild. If she had just died those people would have been alive, living their lives out right now. She was still haunted by what she had done and know she'd have to live with the weight of all those peoples lives on her shoulders. "Ever deserved to have a choice, and you took that from her. If Brent hadn't have been there to wake her up and get her permission then things would have been much, much worse." She sighed and ran her fingers through her hair, she loved Emile, like he was one of her own, but she knew that she needed to make him understand before he did anything rash. "Don't over react Emile. You are too young to have a mate anyway, and Ever is only ten, she shouldn't even be thinking about things like that, I know I wouldn't want my daughter to at that age. You two are just kids, not being able to mate should not effect you too all that much, and its only till the punishment is lifted and we feel you have learned your lesson. You and Ever can still hang out and be friends, we aren't saying you can't do that." Arrow took a deep breath, pausing to let her words soak in before continuing. Emile was looking like he was about to bolt, so she had to do this fast. "before you grab Ever and run off, think about what you are doing, and why you are doing it? Is it really worth it to leave the pack because you want the right to mate with Ever, even though you are too young to do it anyway? You would be leaving the safety of the pack and putting yourself and Ever into danger because you can't take the consequences of what you have done." she turned to Brent and nodded "I agree with those punishments."
