Stay away from the River on moonless nights. Beware strange horses no matter what time of day.
Black-eyed women can sometimes be literally heartless.
And most importantly: Don’t go into the woods. They’re not safe.”

The Long Shadows is an original horror fantasy roleplay based on European folklore set in a small, remote village called Ardenwald, cradled between the Forest and River, both of which have their own force and their own host of fey. These others can be mischievous or malevolent, curious or cruel, but one thing is certain: they make life for the townsfolk very uncomfortable, if not downright terrifying at times.
Not only do the villagers have the insidious hosts of the Forest and the River to survive, but they also must contend with the encroaching missionaries of the Church of the Sun, come to purge the town of the evil influence of its surroundings. The missionaries bring with them wonders from the world far removed from the town, but also an imperious arrogance. Though many villagers have accepted the mission as a new part of their life, there are many belonging to a cult known as the Following, dedicate to the old ways of the first settlers, who want the Church out.
This isn’t so easy as it sounds. People find it much harder to leave Ardenwald than it is to come there in the first place.
And all the while, the Forest watches.
